The Early Years Foundation Stage emphasises the importance of key relationships for children. At St James’ we recognise and value the importance of these relationships and allow plenty of time, opportunities and experiences for strong relationships to build.
A key person has special responsibilities for working with a small number of children, giving them the reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building relationships with their parents / carers.
We start to build these special relationships right from the start of our carefully planned induction process.
Your allocated family Key-Person will make an initial home visit so that we can become familiar with all your child’s needs and complete all the relevant paper work.
Following this visit, we will invite you and your child for a short ‘settling in visit’ at the setting, allowing for enough quality time to get to know the whole team, the new surroundings at nursery and most importantly their key person.
Your Key-Person will be recording observations as part of an individual learning journey. We have regular Parent / Carers evenings where we use the learning journey to share all the wonderful progress your child has been making.
